The Red Sox, who had been in a slugging slump since the start of the season, broke out with three homers, including two by Tommy Harper, whose second smash of the game in the 12th liming beat the Athletics, 7-6. After Rick Miller hit the first homer for the Red Sox in the second inning, Harper came up in that same stanza with two men on base and also connected for the circuit.

Dave Duncan whacked a three-run drive for the A's in the fourth. With Harper's winning wallop in the 12th, the Red Sox equaled their home run total for the previous 17 games of the year. [The Sporting News]
