The Reds bunched three hits with an error for three runs in the first inning and added two more on a homer by Joe Morgan in the fourth to defeat the Cardinals, 5-4. Donn Clendenon hit his first homer in a Cardinals' uniform.

Ross Grimsley, recently recalled from Indianapolis, gained his first victory of the season for the Reds, who also employed three relief pitchers before the game was over. [The Sporting News]
