Wayne Simpson, making his first start since being recalled from Indianapolis, allowed only three hits in six innings before pulling a muscle in his left leg and gained credit for the victory when the Reds defeated the Cardinals, 11-2.

Lance Clemons, making his first start in a St. Louis uniform, was rapped for three runs in the first inning and was kayoed in the third after Tony Perez homered with two men on base. The Reds added two more runs off Tony Cloninger before the inning ended and went on to hand the Cardinals their most lopsided defeat of the season. [The Sporting News]
