After scoring seven runs in the first two innings, the Astros held on to defeat the Pirates, 7-6. Jim Wynn singled and Cesar Cedeno and Bob Watson hit back-to-back homers in the first.

A single by Doug Rader and a pair of walks with two out paved the way for the Astros' other runs in the second. Wynn singled for one run, two others scored on an error by Dave Cash and what proved to be the winning run counted on a single by Watson. [The Sporting News]
