. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Rick Monday hit three consecutive homers, driving in five runs, to lead the Cubs to an 8-1 victory over the Phillies. Monday started his slugging with a three-run smash off Bill Champion in the first inning. He connected again off Champion in the third and then cleared fence at the expense of reliever Darrell Brandon in the fifth.

After fouling out in the seventh, Monday completed his big day with a single in the ninth. Burt Hooton, who threw a no-hitter at the Phillies April 16, stopped them with three hits this time, with the Quakers' run coming on a homer by Greg Luzinski in the fourth inning. [The Sporting News]
