A single by Bobby Murcer for his first hit in 23 times at bat sparked the Yankees to a 3-1 victory over the Indians. After hitting his single in the fifth inning, Murcer stole second and Roy White walked.

Ron Blomberg doubled to score Murcer. White beat the throw home when Thurman Munson grounded to Graig Nettles. Rich McKinney then singled to drive in Blomberg with the third run. [The Sporting News]
