Although forced  to call on five pitchers, the Cubs were able to beat the Cardinals, 6-4. Ken Rudolph drove in the Cubs' first two runs with a triple in the fifth inning and scored on a single by Don Kessinger.

After a single by Rudolph helped set up another run in the seventh, Kessinger batted in what proved to be the Cubs' winning markers with a single in the ninth. Ted Simmons drove in all four of the Cardinals' counters. [The Sporting News]
