. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A victim of his own errors, Les Cain was the loser when the Indians defeated the Tigers, 2-1, behind the five-hit pitching of Gaylord Perry. Cain also allowed only five hits before being lifted in the seventh inning. In the first, the Tigers' lefty fielded a tap by Tommy McCraw and threw wildly to first, allowing the batter to reach third and be in position to score on a sacrifice fly by Eddie Leon. The Tigers picked up their run in the home half on a double by Aurelio Rodriguez and single by Norm Cash.

However in the fifth, Cain, covering first, failed to hold the throw on McCraw's grounder to Cash. Chris Chambliss, running for McCraw, who had to leave the game with a strained leg muscle, took third on a single by Leon and scored the deciding run when Alex Johnson forced Leon.
