A double by Bill Buckner, driving in two runs in the third inning, enabled Claude Osteen to pitch the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Astros in a duel with Don Wilson. The Astros' run scored in the first on a single by Jim Wynn, a wild pitch and a throwing error by Steve Garvey in handling a grounder by Cesar Cedeno.

In the third, Duke Sims walked and was forced by Bill Russell. Osteen helped himself with a single. After Bobby Valentine was retired, Buckner rapped his decisive double. [The Sporting News]
