After hitting his first homer of the season in the eighth inning, Matty Alou beat out a bunt as the key of a two-run rally that enabled the Cardinals to defeat the Cubs, 3-2. Ted Sizemore singled with one out in the ninth. Alou followed with his safe bunt and when Carmen Fanzone threw wildly to first, Sizemore scored and Alou scampered to third. The Cubs then walked Joe Torre intentionally, but Ted Simmons wrecked the move with a single that sent Alou home with the winning run. [The Sporting News] |
