Mike Epstein smashed a three-run homer and Ollie Brown doubled for his first A. L. hit to mark the Athletics' 8-5 victory over the Royals. Bert Campanerls walked, stole two bases and scored on a single by Reggie Jackson in the first inning. Then, after a walk to Sal Bando, Epstein hit his homer.

The Royals came back to tie the score, but the A's broke away with two runs in the sixth on Brown's double, another two-bagger by Ron Clark and a pinch-single by Angel Mangual. [The Sporting News]
