. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Playing before a record Philadelphia crowd of 57,267 on Bat Day, the Mets extended their winning streak to 11 games when Tommie Agee and Willie Mays each hit a two-run homer to beat the Phillies, 4-3. The Phillies took a 3-0 lead against Tom Seaver, two runs scoring on a circuit clout by Tommy Hutton, before Mays doubled in the sixth inning for the first hit off Steve Carlton and Agee followed with his homer.

Jim Beauchamp, batting for Seaver, singled in the eighth and Mays hit his homer for the game-winning blow. The Mets had won all four games in which Mays had appeared since his acquisition from the Giants, three of them directly on hits by the veteran superstar. [The Sporting News]
