Phil Niekro, who helped himself with the sixth homer of his major league career, pitched the Braves to a 2-1 victory over the Reds. Niekro gave up the Reds' run in the first inning on a triple by Pete Rose and single by Joe Morgan before hitting his homer to tie the score in the third.
