Phil Niekro, who helped himself with the sixth homer of his major league career, pitched the Braves to a 2-1 victory over the Reds. Niekro gave up the Reds' run in the first inning on a triple by Pete Rose and single by Joe Morgan before hitting his homer to tie the score in the third. The Braves broke the deadlock in the eighth when Dusty Baker and Darrell Evans singed and Marty Perez drove in Baker with a double. [The Sporting News]
