Getting a break on an error by Doug Griffin, the Orioles scored four runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Red Sox, 4-1. Terry Crowley singled with one out in the eighth, Don Baylor doubled and Bobby Grich walked to load the bases.

Paul Blair then grounded to Rico Petrocelli, who threw to second in an attempt to start a double play, but Griffin failed to hold the ball, allowing Crowley to score. Brooks Robinson walked to force in the go-ahead tally and Andy Etchebarren followed with a single to add a pair of insurance runs. [The Sporting News]
