With the help of the first triple play by the Red Sox since July 15, 1967, Marty Pattin beat the Orioles, 2-1, for his first victory of the season. In the fourth inning, after Terry Crowley singled and Don Baylor walked for the Orioles, Elrod Hendricks lined to Duane Josephson, who stepped on first base to double Baylor and threw to Luis Aparicio at second in time to catch Crowley off the bag for the third out.
