After losing his first five decisions of the season, Bob Gibson entered the Cardinals' winning column with a seven-hit, 10-strikeout performance to beat the Pirates, 4-2. Lou Brock, who singled twice off Dock Ellis and stole second on each occassion, scored the first two Cardinal runs. Ted Sizemore hit a homer in the fifth inning and singles by Ted Simmons and Dal Maxvill, around an error, added an insurance run in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
