Returning to action after missing two starts because of back trouble, Mike Cuellar pitched the Orioles to a 2-0 victory over the Indians. Cuellar yielded four hits. Milt Wilcox was the loser, although giving up only two hits in seven innings on the mound.

The Orioles scored initially in the second on a triple by Paul Blair and sacrifice fly by Boog Powell. Bobby Grich and Terry Crowley walked in the third. Grich advanced to third after the catch on a long fly by Don Baylor and scored on a sacrifice fly by Blair. [The Sporting News]
