Dave Duncan took over the league lead in homers with his ninth of the season and Bert Campaneris also hit for the circuit as the Athletics defeated the White Sox, 6-3, to move past the losers into first place in the West division. The A's used a single by Catfish Hunter, double by Joe Rudi and single by Reggie Jackson for two runs in the third inning.

Duncan's homer and a single by Hunter sandwiched around two errors by Mike Andrews added a pair in the fourth. Andrews made up for his errors with a two-run homer in the fifth, but Campaneris added the A's final tallies with his round-tripper in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
