The Angels ruined Tom Murphy's first start for the Royals by beating their ex-teammate, 4-2. Doubles by Leroy Stanton and Leo Cardenas in the second inning and a triple by Bob Oliver and another double by Stanton gave the Angels a 2-1 lead before Murphy left for a pinch-hitter.

The Angels then added what proved to he their deciding margin against Jim Rooker in the eighth. Ken Berry singled, advanced on an out by Vada Pinson and scored on a single by Jim Spencer, who took second on the throw to the plate and also counted on a single by Ken McMullen. [The Sporting News]
