The Expos succumbed to the mastery of Fergie Jenkins and lost to the Cubs, 5-3, for their 13th consecutive defeat in road games. Jenkins' victory was his fifth in a row over the Expos since losing to them last, April 12, 1970.

The Cubs put together three hits and a walk for three runs in the first inning and added their winning margin in the fifth when Don Kessinger, Glenn Beckert and Billy Williams singled and Rick Monday hit a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
