After failing to hold a 4-1 lead, the Pirates rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Phillies, 6-5. Roberto Clemente, appearing as a pinch-hitter, walked to open the stanza. Gene Alley bunted and was safe on a throwing error by Joe Hoerner.

Dave Cash followed with a single, Clemente scoring. After a safe bunt by Gene Clines loaded the bases, Al Oliver smashed a single to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
