Bob Gibson's best game of the season saw the Cardinals' righthander beat the Cubs, 1-0, in a duel with Fergie Jenkins. Gibson allowed only three hits. Jenkins gave up eight and yielded a run in the fifth inning on a single by Dal Maxvill, sacrifice by Gibson and single by Lou Brock. [The Sporting News]
