Powered by three homers, the Royals defeated the Twins, 5-3. The Twins had a homer by Eric Soderholm with a man on base in the second inning and added another run in the fifth before the Royals tied the score with round-trippers by Lou Piniella and Ed Kirkpatrick in the sixth, Piniella's poke coming with one aboard. With two out in the eighth, Cookie Rojas singled for the Royals and Richie Scheinblum delivered a pinch-homer for the game-winning blow.
