The Dodgers, who had won 10 straight games at Candlestick Park since May 15, 1971, were stopped on their streak by Steve Stone, who pitched the Giants to a 5-2 victory. The Giants were held hitless by Bill Singer until the fourth inning when Tito Fuentes and Ed Goodson singled.

After a forceout by Dave Kingman, Chris Speier hit a sacrifice fly. Ken Henderson singled, sending Kingman to third and took second himself when the bag was left uncovered. Garry Maddox then drove in both runners with a single. The Giants clinched the verdict with two more runs in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
