Rusty Staub hit a three-run homer in the first inning to start the Mets off to an 8-1 victory over the Phillies. Staub's smash followed a double by Bud Harrelson, pass to Jim Fregosi and forceout by Tommie Agee.

The Mets went on to load the bases on two walks around a double by John Milner and added another run on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Grote. Milner collected two more hits in the game, including a homer. Greg Luzinski homered for the Phillies' run. [The Sporting News]
