After Catfish Hunter gained the 100th victory of his major league career by defeating the Orioles, 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader, the Athletics also won the second game by the same 2-0 score behind the combined pitching of Dave Hamilton, Rollie Fingers and Darold Knowles. The A's decided Hunter's decision in the opener when Bert Campaneris doubled in the first inning and Sal Bando homered.

In the nightcap, the A's again scored all their runs in the first. A walk to Marty Martinez and singles by Joe Rudi and Reggie Jackson accounted for the inital tally. When Bando bounced into a double play, Rudi came across the plate with the second marker. [The Sporting News]
