Johnny Bench belted his eighth homer in the last seven games, connecting with a man on base in the fourth inning, but that blow was not enough for the Reds, who lost to the Mets, 3-2. The Mets began their comeback with a homer by John Milner in their half of the fourth.

Milner also scored the tying tally in the sixth, drawing a walk and racing home on a double by Cleon Jones. Then, in the seventh, Jim Beauchamp singled as a pinch-hitter for Jim McAndrew, Bud Harrelson walked and Tommie Agee singled to drive in the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
