Stan Bahnsen and Rich Gossage combined to pitch the White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Red Sox. Gossage, who relieved in the seventh inning, received credit for his first save.

The White Sox picked up a run in the first inning on a walk to Mike Andrews and triple by Dick Allen. The other tally in the fourth crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Andrews after the White Sox loaded the bases with one out against Luis Tiant. [The Sporting News]
