The Pirates piled up 15 hits, including homers by Richie Hebner, Jackie Hernandez and Willie Stargell, to defeat the Padres, 11-2. Hebner's homer helped the Pirates take a 2-0 lead before they broke the game apart with six runs in the seventh inning.

Hernandez led off with a solo swat. After two walks around a safe bunt by Dave Cash loaded the bases, Al Oliver batted in two runs with a single and Stargell followed with a three-run homer. The Padres ended a 27-inning scoreless streak with their pair in the ninth on a single by Larry Stahl, triple by Johnny Jeter and sacrifice fly by Ed Spiezio. [The Sporting News]
