Two big innings, featuring homers by Sal Bando, Ollie Brown and Gene Tenace, carried the Athletics to 1a 0-5 victory over the Tigers. Bando and Brown each connected with a man on base in the fourth.

Tenace, pinch-hitting for Darold Knowles, homered with two men on base when the A's erupted for six runs in the eighth. Bando led off that inning with a double and drove in a run with a single on his second time at bat in the outburst. [The Sporting News]
