Bob Gibson picked up the 210th victory of his career with the Cardinals, tying Jess Haines' club record, when Joe Torre homered in the ninth inning to beat the Padres, 3-2. The Padres counted their pair on a walk and three singles in the fourth and the Cardinals tied the score in the fifth with a triple by Lou Brock, a wild pitch and homer by Matty Alou.
