A single by Manny Mota in the eighth inning scored Maury Wills and gave the Dodgers a 2-1 victory over the Pirates, who were stopped on their seven-game winning streak. Claude Osteen, who had help from Jim Brewer in the ninth, became the first lefthander to triumph over the Pirates this season.

The Pirates, who had beaten 10 straight southpaws, opened the game with a run on a double by Bill Mazeroski and single by Roberto Clemente. Osteen helped himself with a single in the sixth and scored the tying tally on a sacrifice by Wills, wild pitch by Luke Walker and infield out by Bill Buckner.
