After being shut out in the opener of a doubleheader, 4-0, the Giants came back to defeat the Cubs in the nightcap, 3-1, to snap their eight-game losing streak. Bill Hands pitched the Cubs' shutout, limiting the Giants to five hits. Carmen Fanzone singled for two of the Cubs' runs off Juan Marichal, who was lifted in seventh inning and became the major leagues' first 10-game loser this season.

Ron Bryant was the Giants' "stopper" in the nightcap. Fran Healy, who hit a double and single, scored twice for the Giants. Damaso Blanco drove in one run in the sixth inning with a single for his first major league hit. [The Sporting News]
