The Padres, who tied the score with homers by Nate Colbert and Larry Stahl in the ninth inning, pushed over a run in the 10th and ended their 10-game losing streak by defeating the Cardinals, 4-3. Garry Jestadt opened the overtime stanza with a single. Steve Arlin bunted to Rick Wise, who threw wildly to first base. Jerry Morales, running for Jestadt, took third and Arlin advanced to second on the error. The Cardinals brought in Joe Grzenda to pitch to Derrel Thomas, who promptly singled for his third hit of the game to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News] |
