Reggie Cleveland pitched a four-hitter and also sacrificed successfully to set up the winning run as the Cardinals defeated the Dodgers, 3-2. The Cards jumped off with two runs in the first inning on a double by Bernie Carbo, singles by Matty Alou and Joe Torre and sacrifice fly by Ted Simmons.

The Dodgers pulled even in the third when Bobby Valentine and Manny Mota doubled and Bill Buckner singled. Dal Maxvill singled in the fifth and, after Cleveland's sacrifice, crossed the plate with the deciding run on a single by Lou Brock. [The Sporting News]
