Jerry Reuss pitched a six-hitter and Tommy Helms batted in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly to provide the Astros with a 3-1 victory over the Expos. After the Astros scored in the second inning on a single by Terry Humphrey and double by John Boccabella, the Astros took command with two runs in the fourth on singles by Jim Wynn and Lee May, forceout of May by Bob Watson and singles by Johnny Edwards and Helms. An insurance run followed in the sixth on Helms' sacrifice fly after a double by May, hit batsman and walk loaded the bases.
