An error by Wayne Garrett opened the gates for three unearned runs in the eighth inning and enabled the Braves to defeat the Mets, 11-7. Earl Williams homered for the Braves, but the Mets had round-trippers by John Milner, Garrett, Rusty Staub and Ken Boswell to help them take a 7-4 lead.

Ralph Garr, Hank Aaron and Rico Carty opened the eighth with singles for a run to start the Braves' rally. Darrell Evans bunted to Cleon Jones and when Garrett missed the throw to third base, Aaron and Sonny Jackson, who ran for Carty, both scored. Evans wound up at third on the error.
