In the most productive game of his major league career, John Mayberry batted in six runs and tied the Royals' club record in a 13-9 victory over the Red Sox. Mayberry hit a homer and two doubles. Amos Otis and Cookie Rojas also rapped round-trippers for the Royals, Rojas' blow coming with two men on base.

Tommy Harper and Rico Petrocelli had homers for the Red Sox, who were in contention until the Royals clinched the game in the ninth with two runs on Mayberry's circuit clout and their final tally on doubles by Rojas and Freddie Patek. [The Sporting News]
