Observing his 34th birthday, Billy Williams hit two homers and drove in three runs to lead the Cubs' attack in a 10-1 victory over the Padres. Williams' first homer, after a walk to Glenn Beckert, ignited a six-run outburst in the fourth inning.

After Williams connected again in the fifth, the Cubs added two more runs. Jim Hickman singled and scored on a triple by Jose Cardenal. Ron Santo was hit by a pitch, and Cardenal then stole home in a double steal with Santo. [The Sporting News]
