. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Pirates, after winning the first game, 4-1, outslugged the Giants in the second game, 9-7, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader. Nelson Briles, who allowed six hits, was the winner of the opener with help from Dave Giusti, who retired the last two batters. The Pirates used a walk to Richie Hebner and doubles by Milt May and Gene Alley for two runs in the fourth inning and added their other pair in the fifth on another pass to Hebner, a triple by Willie Stargell and sacrifice fly by Bob Roberston.

Al Oliver and Robertson each drove in three runs to pace the Pirates in the nightcap. Robertson had gone 0-for-21 before breaking his slump with three singles. Oliver also had three hits, including a homer. Ed Goodson homered for the Giants. The Pirates chalked up what proved to be their winning margin when Gene Clines doubled, Manny Sanguillen tripled and Robertson singled in the seventh inning. [The Sporting News]
