With Steve Arlin pitching a two-hitter, the Padres gained a 1-0 victory for their second straight shutout of the Pirates. In the preceding night's game, Clay Kirby beat the Bucs, 4-0. The Padres' winning run for Arlin scored off Bruce Kison in the first inning when Jerry Morales doubled and completed his circuit of the bases on infield outs by Fred Stanley and Leron Lee.
