An error by Derrel Thomas with two out in the 10th inning enabled Lou Brock to score for the Cardinals to defeat the Padres, 5-4. The Cardinals picked up an earlier unearned run on an error by Jerry Morales in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead, but the Padres' center fielder made amends in the eighth by hitting a two-run homer to tie the game.

In the 10th, Brock and Ted Sizemore singled with one away. After Donn Clendenon flied out, the runners advanced on a wild pitch by Gary Ross. Joe Torre then smashed a hot grounder that Thomas booted as the winning run scored. [The Sporting News]
