Tom Timmerman pitched a five-hitter and was rewarded with a victory when the Tigers defeated the Athletics, 5-2. Bill Freehan provided the deciding blow for his batterymate, driving in two runs with a bases-loaded double in the eighth inning.

Timmerman singled, Tony Taylor doubled and Al Kaline was handed an intentional pass ahead of Freehan's two-bagger. When Reggie Jackson bobbled the ball, an extra run scored. [The Sporting News]
