Bob Oliver homered with two out in the ninth inning to give the Angels a 2-1 victory over the Athletics in a duel between Nolan Ryan and Dave Hamilton. Ryan yielded only two hits, with the A's run coming on a homer by Reggie Jackson in the first.

While Ryan deserved the victory, the defeat nevertheless was a tough one for Hamilton. The Angels' first run in the third was unearned and Oliver's homer in the ninth was the first given up by the A's young southpaw in 36 innings this season. [The Sporting News]
