A triple by Roberto Clemente, who drove in two runs in the fourth inning, started the Pirates off to a 4-2 victory over the Cubs. Clemente's triple followed a single by Dave Cash and double by Vic Davalillo. Clemente then scored himself on a single by Al Oliver.

A walk to Willie Stargell, a wild pitch and single by Manny Sanguillen added the Bucs' last run in the eighth. Dave Giusti saved the game for Steve Blass, relieving with a man on base and one out in the ninth and inducing Ron Santo to hit into a double play. [The Sporting News]
