. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Gaylord Perry picked up his 12th victory of season and Mike Kilkenny won his first game of the year as the Indians defeated the Yankees in a doubleheader, 4-3 and 5-1. The Indians beat Mel Stottlemyre in the opener, breaking a 1-1 tie with three runs in the eighth inning on a walk to Graig Nettles, single by Tommy McCraw and doubles by Ray Fosse and John Lowenstein. The Yankees rallied for two runs in the ninth, but Ed Farmer replaced Perry and retired the last two batters to save the game.

Kilkenny, pitching for his fourth major league club this season, limited the Yankees to five hits in the nightcap. The Indians sent their new acquisition on his way to victory by scoring three runs in the first nning, two crossing the plate on a bases-loaded single by Jerry Moses. [The Sporting News]
