After scoring their first seven runs on five homers, the Astros used a triple, two doubles, three singles, three walks and two errors for seven more runs in the last three innings to defeat the Padres, 14-7. Jim Wynn and Cesar Cedeno each homered for the Astros with a man on base. Doug Rader hit two solo swats and Lee May added one. Larry Stahl collected four hits for the Padres.

The Astros broke a 7-7 tie and went ahead to stay when Cedeno singled in the seventh, stole second and crossed the plate on a double by Wynn. [The Sporting News]
