Bill Slayback made his major league debut with seven innings of no-hit pitching as the Tigers defeated the Yankees, 4-3. The rookie righthander's mastery was broken when Johnny Callison singled for the Yankees' first hit in the eighth.

A walk to Horace Clarke, single by Bernie Allen, double by Bobby Murcer and groundout by Roy White produced three runs in the ninth before Slayback was removed. Mickey Stanley batted in three runs for the Tigers with a bases-loaded single in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
