A seven-run explosion in the fourth inning propelled the Red Sox to an 8-2 victory over the Indians behind the three-hit pitching of John Curtis. The Red Sox rookie got off to a shaky start in the first inning, giving up two walks, two hits and two runs on a bases-loaded single by Ron Lolich.

The Red Sox began their outburst in the fourth with three runs on a walk to Carl Yastrzemski, single by Rico Petrocelli and homer by Bob Burda. A total of 13 batters went to the plate before the inning ended. Carlton Fisk accounted for one run with a single, Tommy Harper drove in another with a sacrifice fly and Doug Griffin singled for the last two tallies. [The Sporting News]
