The Twins were the victims of a triple play on poor baserunning by Harmon Killebrew and Steve Braun while losing to the Angels, 3-1. After Killebrew singled and Braun doubled in the fourth inning, Jim Nettles flied to Jim Spencer in left field. Killebrew faked a dash for the plate and Braun started from second. Ken McMullen took Spencer's throw to third and fired to Sandy Alomar, who tagged Braun out. Alomar then pegged to Leo Cardenas, covering third, and Killebrew was caught off the bag for the third out. Nolan Ryan pitched a six-hitter for the Angels and also helped at bat, smashing a triple in the seventh inning and scoring on a single by Alomar to break a 1-1 tie. [The Sporting News] |
